Lily-Rose Depp admits sad reason one of dad Johnny’s movies left her ‘traumatised and upset’

Lily-Rose Depp admits sad reason one of dad Johnny's movies left her ‘traumatised and upset’

“I remember being petrified by that.”

Lily-Rose Depp has shared the sad reason why watching one of her father Johnny Depp’s films ‘traumatised’ her as a child.

Lily-Rose, 25, has followed in her father’s Hollywood footsteps by carving out a career as an actor, with credits including The Dancer, The King and controversial HBO series The Idol.

Her most recent project is a leading role in Robert Eggers’ adaptation of the cult-horror classic Nosferatu alongside Bill Skarsgård, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Nicholas Hoult, Emma Corrin and Willem Dafoe.

However, it would appear that gothic horror hasn’t always been a genre which Lily-Rose is a fan of.

During a recent interview with Harpers Bazaar, the star revealed that she had been left ‘traumatised’ by watching her father’s 1990 film Edward Scissorhands as a child.

For those who aren’t familiar with the Tim Burton classic, Johnny plays the titular character who has scissors instead of hands.

The film was both a commercial and critical success at the time and beloved by everyone who watched it, excluding a younger Lily-Rose.

So why was the actor so afraid of the film in her younger years? Turns out it had less to do with her father’s character and more the reactions from the film’s townspeople.

“I was traumatised by it,” Lily-Rose explained. “Not because I thought he was scary, but because everyone was being so mean to him and I got really upset.”

The 25-year-old went on to explain how the film’s ending – which sees Edward fake his death after the locals turn on him – was particularly distressing to see as a child.

“I remember being petrified by that,” she added.

Fortunately, Lily-Rose has since embraced the world of gothic cinema, with her role as Ellen Hutter in Nosferatu earning her praise from critics.

The film, which developed from an unauthorised Dracula adaptation in the 1920s, sees Ellen stalked and tormented by the vampiric Count Orlok.

Reflecting on whether or not her father’s roles in gothic films had inspired her to take on the role of Ellen, Lily-Rose added that while she and him are ‘very different actors’ the fascination with the supernatural likely runs in the family.

“We’re very different actors, but of course you’re the product of your environment, and it’s a world I’ve always been very interested in,” she said.

“I’m interested in the darker underbelly of things. As an actor, you hope that your role will be as meaty as can be, so you have as much to dive into as possible.”

Nosferatu is in cinemas now.

Amanda Holden gives brutal one-word reason for not fancying Johnny Depp

Amanda Holden gives brutal one-word reason for not fancying Johnny Depp

How will Johnny Depp cope??

Johnny Depp’s just one of the blokes many of our mum’s would be swooning over while we grew up watching him as the iconic drunken Disney pirate.

And to be fair, that’s not exactly changed over the years as he’s continued to film mega movies, appear with a guitar at concerts and be at the centre of a televised court case with with some pretty serious allegations.

But not every mum out there fancies Depp – including Amanda Holden.

The Britain’s Got Talent judge is often slinging out her hot takes, whether people are bothered about hearing them or not.

And amidst the like of slamming Sharon Osbourne and making an unexpected comment about Paul Rudd, the 53-year-old has given a brutal one-word reason for not fancying Depp.

While much of Gen Z (and well, plenty of millennials I guess) have declared it a ‘rat boy summer’ as they crush on men with sharp, mouse-like features, Holden’s got her own type.

The mum says she leans more towards ‘horse-like’ features, swooning over her husband Chris Hughes’ ‘gorgeous’ hair, tall frame and ‘noble’ charm.

Holden was talking about ‘hot rodent men’ during her radio show, when a listener suggested Depp could be part of the ‘horse’ category of blokes.

But the BGT star simply wasn’t having it – she doesn’t fancy the Pirates of the Caribbean actor because he’s ‘smelly’ apparently.

She went all in as she said: “I dunno, I know that Johnny Depp is a bit smelly. So I don’t fancy him.”

There was actually a long-standing rumour years ago that Depp, well, stinks. And you know, like everyone does if they smell good, he went public to insist that he smells good.

While presenting an award back in 2016, he recalled an interaction with some strangers: “They said, ‘You do look like a hobo, but you smell really good’. And goddamn it, I smell really good!”

He apparently also claimed he wasn’t mad about so many people believing he stinks as he said he actually found it quite funny.

As Holden banged on about preferring ‘horse men’, her co-host Jamie Theakston jumped in to suggest that Liverpool Football legend Jurgen Klopp could be one of these horse blokes.

And listeners added that Sylvester Stallone could be one of these stallions too – pretty fitting if you ask me.

Well, gutted for you Depp, Holden doesn’t fancy you.

Real reason why Johnny Depp didn’t look at Amber Heard once during entire trial

Real reason why Johnny Depp didn’t look at Amber Heard once during entire trial

Amber Heard and Johnny Depp faced off in a highly publicised defamation trial in 2022

Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s 2022 defamation court case was one that captured attention around the world.

During the case, the Pirates of the Caribbean actor never appeared to look at his former wife or meet her eye.

Now the real reason for the lack of eye contact has been explained, as part of the Netflix documentary Depp v. Heard.

The feature length documentary, told in three episodes, focuses on the case after Depp sued Heard for $50 million over a 2018 article she wrote in the Washington Post, titled: “I spoke up against sexual violence – and faced our culture’s wrath. That has to change.”

Depp’s legal team put forward the case that while the article never mentioned him explicitly, it inferred that he was the offender behind the sexual violence that Heard claimed to have suffered.

During the defamation trial, which lasted several weeks, Heard accused Depp of physical abuse and claimed he left her with bruises after altercations.

Yet during the entire case, Depp never appeared to look at Heard – something his lawyer Camille Vasquez pointed out while examining Heard on the stand.

In court, Vasquez said: “Mr. Depp hasn’t looked at you once this entire trial, has he?”

Heard then responded: “Not that I’ve noticed, no.”

Vasquez highlighted that Heard had looked over at her former husband many times, yet received no interaction back as she then explained: “You know exactly why Mr. Depp won’t look back at you, don’t you? He promised you would never see his eyes again, isn’t that true?”

While Heard struggled to recollect if that was ever said, Vasquez then played a clip from the pair’s last meeting in 2016.

Depp could be heard in the recording as he said: “We won’t have to see each other again. You will not see my eyes again.”

Despite the promise, which Depp seemingly kept, Heard pointed out that he ‘could not’ look at her as she replied: “As far as I know, he cannot look at me.”

Vasquez replied: “He won’t look at you, right Ms. Heard?”

To which Heard insisted: “He can’t.”

During the trial, Depp’s body language was highly analysed with many speculating that the actor’s refusal to look at his former partner could be a sign of guilt.

Julie Grant, lawyer and host of Court TV, told Good Morning Britain: “Him looking down most of the time was concerning.”

However, the case eventually concluded when the jury sided with Depp and ordered Heard to pay him $15 million in damages.

Depp v. Heard is available to stream on Netflix now.

Pirates of the Caribbean co-stars Depp and Knightley revealed what they thought of their on-screen kiss

Johnny Depp has previously spoken about kissing Pirates of the Caribbean co-star Keira Knightley while having a large age gap.

The two starred in three of the blockbuster swashbuckler films together back in the 2000s as Captain Jack Sparrow and Elizabeth Swann.

The Curse of the Black Pearl was the first title of the franchise, which was released back in 2003, with the likes of Orlando Bloom and Geoffrey Rush also starring.

In the film, Sparrow and Swann were involved in a love triangle with Bloom’s character, Will Turner, who Knightley’s character (rightly) ended up with.

The actor starred in the first film in the franchise when she was 17-years-old, and Knightley has previously come out and spoken about how she struggled with fame, admitting that the pressure was what made her shift her career towards smaller, independent films.

But it was the sequel that included the steamy moment with Depp’s character.

At the time of filming Dead Man’s Chest, released in 2006, Depp was 22 years older than the Pride and Prejudice star at 41, with the Edward Scissorhands actor later revealing how he’d felt about their on-screen kiss.

While talking to The Standard in 2012, he said: “Kissing someone you are not romantically involved with is always awkward, but the fact that Keira is twenty something years younger than me made it infinitely more awkward. Still, she was a good sport about it and we did what we had to do.”

Knightley also commented on the kiss in an interview with TMZ in 2006, saying: “I couldn’t ask for a better kissing scene with Johnny Depp actually I think my 14 year-old self was yelping with pleasure.

“It was fantastic! What more can a girl ask for? I’ve got Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom and I get to kiss both of them. It’s wonderful!”

But looking back on that point in her life, Knightley said that she needed ‘many years of therapy’ to overcome how she felt with her meteoric rise to stardom following the franchise’s success.

Speaking with The Telegraph in 2019, the British actor said: “The fame that came with them I just couldn’t handle.

“So looking back, would I do anything different? No, I wouldn’t because I’m unbelievably lucky now, and my career is in a place where I really enjoy it, and I have a level of fame that’s much less intense.”

In a recent interview with The Times, she admitted that the experience of filming Pirates on set was ‘making and breaking you at the same time’.

“I was seen as s**t because of them, and yet because they did so well I was given the opportunity to do the films that I ended up getting Oscar nominations for [Pride & Prejudice and The Imitation Game],” she highlighted.

Knightley added: “They were the most successful films I’ll ever be a part of and they were the reason that I was taken down publicly.

“So, they’re in a very confused place in my head.”

Pirates of the Caribbean star Johnny Depp has paid tribute to his co-star Tamayo Perry after it was announced that he was killed in a shark attack.

Perry, 49, had been surfing off Mālaekahana Beach on Oahu’s North Shore in Hawaii last month when he was attacked by a shark.

Emergency services pulled Perry from the water and brought him back to shore via a jet-ski, however the actor, surfer and lifeguard was ultimately pronounced dead at the scene.

A month on from the tragedy Depp – who played Captain Jack Sparrow in the franchise – has paid tribute to Perry’s family via social media.

Sharing an black-and white-photograph of Perry to his Instagram Stories yesterday (28 July), Depp sent his ‘love’ to his former co-star’s family.

“Even though it was some years ago now, I remember Tamayo well,” he wrote.

“A lovely man, with a huge heart and zest for life… Emilia, I send you all my love and strength. You are in my thoughts. With love, Johnny.”

Depp also included a link to a GoFundMe set up in Perry’s memory, which aims to raise funds in order to support his legacy. At the time of writing around $118,655 (£92,247) had been raised from the $200,000 (£155,500) target.

In an update posted to the page, the organisers explained the GoFundMe would be used to help Perry’s widow Emila ‘navigate’ life without her husband.

“The generosity shown is deeply moving. These funds will be used to support Emilia as she navigates the future without Tamayo; her husband, best friend and provider,” the message read.

“We will continue to share Tamayo’s message of love, faith in Jesus Christ, and living life to the absolute fullest with the people you care about.”

Perry and Depp worked together back in 2011 on the film Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides alongside Penélope Cruz and Ian McShane, where he had played the role of a swashbuckling buccaneer.

He has also had minor roles in TV and film projects such as 2003’s Charlie’s Angels 2 and episodes of Hawaii Five-O.

Outside of acting Perry had been an established surfer, where he had made a name for himself as someone who could complete the infamous Pipeline wave on Ehukai beach, Oahu.

Perry had previously recalled his experience auditioning for the film in an interview, explaining that he and four others had been selected from a pool of nearly 7,000 applicants in 2010.

“I had to get pretty nasty to stand out,” he said of the process. “There were some herniated squints.”
