GK Barry made a surprise appearance in Missing You and fans have gone wild

Harlan Coben’s Missing You was a series like no other, but what you may not have noticed is that there was a cameo from GK Barry and she’s revealed why she joined the cast.

Fool Me Once was a massive hit for Netflixbecoming the eighth most-viewed English-speaking show of all time, and it seems like Missing You is on track to have the same popularity.

It’s no surprise that Coben’s adaptations have been so successful with viewers and there is everything you could ever want.

There’s mystery, suspense, betrayal, love, loss, and revenge.

While viewers were sitting back watching the show, which dropped on New Year’s Day, they were quick to point out seeing GK Barry (Grace), the popular podcaster, YouTuber and TikToker who recently came out of the jungle.

Taking to X, people flocked to the platform to find out whether their eyes were lying to them, and to rave about this new venture for her.

One person wrote: “either i’m going mad or gk barry is in the flashback scenes in missing you on netflix???”

A second said: “Just started the missing you show everyone’s going on about and gk barry’s the first person i see?”

Another commented: “What the hell is GK Barry doing in Missing You.”

A fourth said: “GK Barry girl, what are you doing here?”

But why was she in the show?

The series focuses on a detective whose fiancé disappeared off the face of the Earth, before she accidentally finds him on a dating app, which kick-starts a whole host of insane situations as she’s pulled into the mysterious death of her father.

However, we soon find out that a missing man- Rishi Magari- is connected to a woman named Vanessa (Barry), which is when she appears on the screen.

According to her, she was asked to be part of the show.

Speaking to Cosmopolitan, she revealed that the production team reached out to her manager to set the whole thing up.

She said: “They approached my manager and said, ‘We’re doing this new Netflix show, and we’d love Grace to be a little part in it.’ And I thought, ‘Well, I’m not going to say no’.

“So, we got on a call, and they were explaining who my character was, and it made me laugh so much because it’s very on brand.”

Spoiler Alert:

Barry’s character plays a ‘foot cam girl’, so you can see why she’d agree to take up the role.

Once she agreed, she said: “They gave me a brief outline of what it was about and read me the lineup of people [involved] and I thought, ‘I absolutely will do that.’ I just wanted to do it because I thought it was kind of iconic. I want to build the CV up so my parents cannot moan about anything!”

While it was a fleeting cameo, we very well might see her in more TV as she said she’d love to ‘do [more acting], like The Office vibes, or something that doesn’t involve tense acting’.

Netflix has added a true story comedy movie about a hit man and it's got a 97% score on Rotten Tomatoes

Netflix has added a true story comedy movie about a hit man and it’s got a 97% score on Rotten Tomatoes

Netflix has added a film about a hit man with a near-perfect Rotten Tomatoes score although all is not quite as it seems

A film based on a true story has achieved a near-perfect Rotten Tomatoes score and it’s just been added to Netflix.

If you’d already sped your way through the second season of a ‘brutal’ Irish crime drama which landed on the streaming service, alongside a series which left viewers ‘too scared to sleep’ then how about a comedy about a hit man based on a real person to lighten the mood a bit?

Granted, it seems a bit peculiar to make a comedy about a hitman, however, all is not quite as it seems.

The 2023 release – titled Hit Man – was produced and directed by Richard Linklater – best known for hits such as School of Rock and Boyhood – and stars the likes of Glen Powell (Top Gun: Maverick), Adria Arjona (Andor) and Retta (Parks and Recreation).

The film focuses on the character of a man named Gary Johnson, a college professor and technology whizz who ends up pretending to be a hitman.

Why? Well, so he can catch people out who are trying to actually hire a hitman.

And the character is actually based on a real life person too.

The Netflix film is loosely based on the true story of man of the same name – Gary Johnson.

In the 1980s and 90s, the real Johnson indeed posted as a hit man for the Houston police.

A 2001 Texas Monthly article written by Skip Hollandsworth detailed Johnson’s incredible story, branding him the ‘Lawrence Olivier’ of fake police hit men. Both Linklater and Powell ended up stumbling across it, Linklater telling UNILAD they must’ve discovered it ’19 years apart, maybe 20′.

And it hasn’t taken long for viewers to be captivated by the story too since it was released onto Netflix earlier today (7 June).

Hit Man has achieved an exciting Rotten Tomatoes’ tomatometer score of 97 percent, alongside an audience score of 95 which one social media user noted is ‘well deserved’.

And it’s not taken long for the love of the comedy to spill over onto too.

One user wrote: “I just finished it, this role must’ve been so much fun to film for Glen Powell. He absolutely KILLED IT. (Well, I guess not ‘Kill.’).”

“I woke up this morning and while I was getting ready I remembered Hit Man came out on Netflix, so I threw it on and wound up watching the first 30 minutes again. Richard Linklater and Glen Powell wrote a damn near perfect screenplay and it’s so immediately apparent,” another added.

And a third commented: “Damn he helped write it? you go glen coco.”

Adam Sandler’s ‘incredible’ new Netflix film that’s already scoring a perfect 10/10 with audiences

Early watchers of the film cannot get enough

Think of an Adam Sandler film and you probably think comedy, whether that’s Happy Gilmore, Big Daddy or the more recent Murder Mystery.

But the New York comedian is a man of many talents and has, on occasion, dabbled in more serious roles through the likes of Uncut Gems and Hustle, both of which saw Sandler receive critical acclaim.

And now, his most recent serious role is going down a storm with audiences – so much so it has scored a perfect 100 percent Rotten Tomatoes rating with the general population.

The 57-year-old dad-of-two has entered the world of science fiction in a new role that’s sees him jetting off in to space.

The film debuted at the 74th Berlin International Film Festival on 21 February before being released into cinemas on 22 February for a limited run.

It’ll then head over to Netflix at the beginning of March.

Sandler stars alongside Carey Mulligan, Paul Dano, and Kunal Nayyar in the 107 minute sci-fi drama.

One reviewer posted: “Incredible film. Extremely well acted, consistently engaging, and memorable. Thoroughly enjoyed. Thought Adam Sandler had a stellar performance. Production value was top notch.”

A second said: “Had the opportunity to watch this at the Berlin premiere.

Sandler finds himself in deep space in this sci-fi flick.

Netflix

“Absolutely loved the musical score, the Sandler performance and the production.

“I disagree with some of the negative critical remarks about it being slow, I loved the gradual build.”

A third wrote: “I thought it was a terrific movie. Adam Sandler continues to impress as a dramatic actor. Carey Mulligan is always good. Isabella Rossellini was perfectly cast as the mission director.

“The story has a lot of interesting elements, isolation, selfishness, love and redemption. Very well told and executed.”

The film is Spacemanand stars Sandler as astronaut Jakub Prochazka, who is sent to the edge of the solar system to collect mysterious ancient dust.

While making the voyage, he finds his life back on Earth falling apart and turns to the one voice who can help him try and salvage it all; that voice being a creature from the beginning of time lurking in the shadows of his ship.

Mulligan stars as Sandler’s on-screen wife, Lenka Prochazka, while Dano is the voice of Hanus, the creature hiding in the depths of Sandler’s vessel.

The film is based off of Jaroslav Kalfar’s 2017 sci-fi novel, Spaceman of Bohemia, with work on the film beginning in October 2020.

Johan Renck directs, with his previous work including the critically-acclaimed mini-series Chernobyl, winning him an Emmy Award back in 2019.

Viewers have loved it ahead of its arrival on Netflix, while critics have been a little less favourable.

But at an average of 67 percent, it’s scoring solidly among those whose job it is to watch movies.

Spaceman comes to Netflix in March.

Netflix

Maria Lattia, of Film Storieswrites: “There is a great tenderness to Spaceman. Renck directs Spaceman with the same clarity that he brought to Chernobyl, but Spaceman soars highest when it explores the many avenues of humanity.”

And Rodrigo Perez of The Playlistsaid: “Imagine a movie akin to a sad David Bowie song about an astronaut drifting alone into the dark abyss of space, contemplating his life, his lost love, and more.

“That’s Swedish filmmaker Johan Renck’s Spaceman in a nutshell.”

Police release CCTV of missing mother's last known movements after her coat was found in a river

Police release CCTV of missing mother’s last known movements after her coat was found in a river

Gaynor Lord disappeared on 8 December after leaving work in Norwich before police found her coat in the River Wensum.

Police have released CCTV footage of a missing mum-of-three’s last known movements after she disappeared last week.

Gaynor Lord, 55, vanished last Friday (8 December) after leaving her workplace in Norwich.

She has not been seen or heard from since – but her olive-coloured coat was discovered in the River Wensum.

Police said it was likely that Gaynor had ‘entered the water’, while specialist divers have since joined the search.

But cops are still trying to piece together the lead up to her disappearance while continuing the hunt for her, prompting the force in Norwich to appeal to the public for help with the investigation.

The retail assistant was seen leaving her workplace, Jarrolds department store, on CCTV footage at 2.45pm, which was an hour and 15 minutes before her shift actually finished.

She then hurriedly starts to make her way through the city centre; rushing along London Street, carrying her coat and handbag, before hastily crossing Queen Street and heading to Norwich Cathedral.

Gaynor was pictured leaving work on 8 December but hasn't been seen since.

Norfolk Police

The final images of Gaynor, captured at 4.01pm, show her walking along St Crispins Road towards Pitt Street before going up St Augustines Street.

Later that evening, her possessions were found scattered across the nearby Wensum Park by a member of the public, who reported it to the police.

Gaynor’s ID was inside her handbag, while her clothing – including a white shirt, yellow vest top, two rings, her phone and glasses – were found in the park in ‘various locations’, cops said.

Her coat was then found in the River Wensum, leading to a huge hunt below the surface aided by specialist underwater search teams from Lincolnshire Police.

The park has been closed since Saturday (9 December) as investigations continue.

The mum was then seen hurriedly making her way through the city centre.

Norfolk Police

Gaynor is married and described as 5ft 6 inches tall, with blonde shoulder-length hair in a bob.

Norwich’s policing commander, Superintendent Wes Hornigold, said they are especially keen to hear from anyone who may have saw Gaynor between 2.50pm and 3.23pm.

He said it is ‘not clear where she goes inside the cathedral grounds during this time’.

Supt Hornigold also revealed that his officers had been ‘linking in’ with Lancashire Constabulary to take heed of ‘any of the lessons learned’ from Nicola Bulley‘s disappearance.

The mum-of-two went missing after dropping off her daughters – aged six and nine – at school on 27 January, having taken her dog for a walk by the River Wyre in Lancashire.

An inquest later heard that Nicola was alive when she fell into the water and died as a result of drowning.

Guy Ritchie's The Gentlemen movie is getting a Netflix TV series

Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen movie is getting a Netflix TV series

The 2019 movie starred Matthew McConaughey and Colin Farrell

Announcing the exciting news, the streaming site said: “Theo James, Kaya Scodelario, Daniel Ings, Joely Richardson, Giancarlo Esposito, Peter Serafinowicz and Vinnie Jones (!) will star in new series The Gentlemen, from creator Guy Ritchie.

“Ritchie will serve as creator, co-writer and executive producer of the series that is set in the world of the film of the same name, but not starring the original characters. He’ll also direct the first two episodes.”

Discussing the new release, Ritchie: “The world of The Gentlemen is a little bit of me. I’m thrilled that with Netflix, Miramax and Moonage we have this opportunity to inhabit it once again.

“We’re looking forward to bringing fans back into that world, introducing new characters and their stories and I am excited to be doing it with this extremely talented cast.”

For those of you who aren’t familiar with the original film, it boasted an all-star cast, with Matthew McConaughey starring alongside Colin Farrell, Hugh Grant, Charlie Hunnam, and Henry Golding.

The synopsis said: “The Gentlemen follows American expat Mickey Pearson (Matthew McConaughey) who built a highly profitable marijuana empire in London.

Miramax

“When word gets out that he’s looking to cash out of the business forever it triggers plots, schemes, bribery and blackmail in an attempt to steal his domain out from under him.”

The blockbuster was hugely successful, grossing $115 million (£89m) at the worldwide box office.

However, while it was financially pretty lucrative, it received mixed reviews from critics.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly about the film at the time, Ritchie said he wanted to bring both sides of the Atlantic together.

He said: “What I wanted to do was to bring subcultures together from both sides of the Atlantic.

“An American comes to England to be clever and get a job in the conventional fashion, but then takes his smarts through his connections at Oxford and realises there’s more money to be made in the marijuana game, and capitalises on the entrepreneurial New World spirit with the comfortable and exciting juxtaposition of British aristocracy.

Hugh Grant starred in the 2019 film.

Miramax

“So what I wanted was British aristocracy, New World American drive, and all of the fun to be had with bringing those two worlds together. Marijuana’s kind of fun, but nevertheless serious and there’s money involved.”

Rumours of a TV adaptation of the film have been doing the rounds for some time.

Back in 2020, Miramax announced it was working on the series.

Marc Helwig, Miramax’s head of worldwide television, said: “Miramax Television is thrilled to break new creative ground in our partnership with Guy Ritchie on The Gentlemen.

“One of the most distinctive and prolific filmmakers working today and someone whose creativity I have admired for many years, we couldn’t be more excited to bring the cinematic journey of The Gentlemen forth into the realm of global premium television.”

According to Deadline, the series will actually bring The Gentlemen full circle, as it originally began life as a TV pitch before being made into a feature film.
