Florence Pugh has spoken out about her chemistry with Andrew Garfield in their newly released film We Live in Time.

The movie came out January 1 in the UK, and features the titanic acting pair as Almut and Tobias.

The film follows their lives in fragmented non-linear moments, telling the story of their relationship whilst jumping around it sequentially.

We Live in Time has received various plaudits from critics, in particular the strong chemistry and performances from the leading pair and the handling various tones of the film.

As a film, it has moments of genuine comedy alongside utterly heartbreaking twists. In addition to that, though, it has brilliantly portrayed sex scenes, in which the pair share great chemistry.

Their chemistry led to them for one scene to be so in the moment, they ‘didn’t hear cut’ during filming.

Garfield sat down with Josh Horowitz in New York recently to speak about an intimate scene with Pugh, where neither of them heard the cameraman shout ‘cut’, so as the professionals that they are, the actors kept going at it.

He explained that it was a ‘closed set’, where the director was in a different room and there was only a camera operator named Stuart in there with the actors, who had to perform the passionate sex scene.

Garfield explained: “The scene becomes passionate and we get into it as it were and we go a little bit further than we were meant to.. it’s feeling safe and we just kind of… go from the next thing to the next thing and we’ll let this progress and we’ll just carry on.”

However, it reached a point where The Amazing Spider-Man actor looked up and realised that Stuart was stood facing the wall in the corner of the room, waiting for them to finish.

It’s a great example of professionalism from the actors, who kept going as they didn’t hear to stop, while speaking to the on-screen spark between the actors.

Pugh spoke about this and the Kelly and Mark show, as the hosts pointed out that she even had ‘chemistry with a door knob’.

Noting that she’s been asked the question a few times by the press, she said: “Ultimately, we don’t really know what chemistry is, other than the fact that you’ve got two energies that are working together – and he’s such a talented actor, and I’ve always admired his work, and when I saw this movie opportunity of whether I would do it.

“I just was so unbelievably thrilled to know that I could have the opportunity working with him in this way.”

The Oppenheimer actress went on: “I think when you have two people that are completely invested in being great for one another, I guess that’s probably what happened, we had such an insane experience shooting this movie and creating this life with these lovers.”

Going on to say that it was ‘wonderful’ to hear that people have enjoyed the film, Pugh also said she was ‘excited’ for wider audiences to be able to experience the flick.

Florence Pugh is the star of Don’t Worry Darling, but plenty of headlines have been written about an ongoing alleged feud between Pugh and director Olivia Wilde, and co-star Harry Styles.

The Hollywood A-Lister was previously dating Zach Braff and faced controversy for their age gap, but who is she dating now?

Is Florence Pugh single? Who is she dating?

Florence revealed she had split from Scrubs star Braff in an interview, confirming they had tried to keep things under wraps: “We’ve been trying to do this separation without the world knowing, because it’s been a relationship that everybody has an opinion on. We just felt something like this would really do us the benefit of not having millions of people telling us how happy they are that we’re not together. So we’ve done that. I automatically get a lumpy throat when I talk about it.”

There was a 21 year age gap between 26-year-old Pugh and 47-year-old Braff, which received intense criticism from many fans. Before the split, the couple worked on a forthcoming film together, A Good Person.

Braff directed and wrote the script for Pugh. She said: “The movie that we made together genuinely was probably one of my most favourite experiences. It felt like a very natural and easy thing to do.”

Dating rumours

At the moment there is no definite boyfriend, however rumours keep swirling.

Following the split from Braff, paparazzi took photos of Pugh at the beach with Will Poulter. Fans went wild thinking they were a new couple.

Pugh quashed the rumours on her Instagram story: “No, Will Poulter and I are not dating. We went to the beach with our friends, who are always about half a metre away from us in every picture, but have been cleverly cut out/ framed out so that it looks otherwise,” she wrote.

“You can LITERALLY see my best friend in the corner of so many shots and Archie’s arms at the sides.”

In the run up to the release of Don’t Worry Darling, there have been many rumours about an alleged feud between Olivia Wilde and Pugh over Harry Styles.

It’s said that Styles and Wilde are dating, but fans wanted Pugh and Styles to get together.

Florence is notoriously private, so fans might have a wait before any new partner is revealed.

Florence Pugh has made a sad admission about her romantic life after taking a lengthy break from acting.

Since her role in 2014’s The Falling, Pugh has enjoyed a particularly busy decade in Hollywood with credits in films such as Midsommar, Little Women, Black Widow and Oppenheimer.

Given how booked and busy the 28-year-old actress has been over the past decade, you’d imagine that Pugh feeling pretty content with life.

However, that’s not completely the case.

During a new interview with The Times to promote her upcoming film We Live in Time, the actress explained how making the comedy-drama alongside Andrew Garfield had left her forced to re-evaluate her personal life.

Currently scheduled to premiere on New Year’s Day, We Live in Time follows the story of Tobias and Almut (Garfield and Pugh) as they build a relationship and start a family before learning that Almut has ovarian cancer.

Given the themes explored in the film, it’s understandable why Pugh may have wrapped filming with a new perspective on things.

“Relationships came and went, and I had this opportunity to look at my life away from my work. And I realised, okay, I need to wake the f*** up,” she explained.

Pugh continued: “I had to look away from my career, from movies, from wanting to be this kind of actor, that kind of actor. Or how many awards I would love to get before I pass away.

“That’s been my focus for ten years, but I want to make sure that the things I need to do, whether children, family, change, change in relationships … well, I realised I need to make changes now.

“Because I’m a worker bee and that is why I’ve never wanted a break. Everything was just, wow! What’s next? And it is only ten years in that I can now go, oh, I need to do a bit of my life.”

Pugh has been notably private when it comes to her private life and romantic relationships, with the actress previously being in a relationship with Scrubs star Zach Braff from 2019 until 2022.

Pugh shared a glimpse into her romantic life during an cover interview in Vogue back in September, confirming that she was currently in a relationship.

“We are figuring what we actually are. And I think for the first time, I’m not allowing myself to go on a roller-coaster,” she said.

“I’m allowing myself to take time to let something evolve and let it be completely real to its core, as opposed to racing into that.”

She is rumoured to be dating Peaky Blinders star Finn Cole, however, neither actor has publicly confirmed or denied the reports.

Cillian Murphy says Oppenheimer sex scenes with Florence Pugh were ‘vital’

Cillian Murphy says Oppenheimer sex scenes with Florence Pugh were ‘vital’

The Peaky Blinders star has defended the sex scenes between J. Robert Oppenheimer and his psychiatrist and physician Jean Tatlock.

Cillian Murphy has explained why the sex scenes with Florence Pugh in Oppenheimer were vital.

The Peaky Blinders star, 47, stars in Christopher Nolan’s latest film as nuclear scientist J. Robert Oppenheimer, who is often credited as the ‘father of the atomic bomb’ – and after watching the film, you’ll also know he was a bit of a ladies’ man.

A major subplot in the blockbuster – which tracks Oppenheimer’s work in the research and development undertaking that produced the first nuclear weapons called the ‘Manhattan Project’ – follows the relationship between the nuclear scientist and his psychiatrist and physician Jean Tatlock.

Oppenheimer and Tatlock, who is portrayed by Florence Pugh, 27, have an affair while the former is still married to Katherine ‘Kitty’ Puening, who is played by Emily Blunt, 40.

“I think they were vital in this in this movie. I think the relationship that he has with Jean Tatlock is one of the most crucial emotional parts of the film,” Murphy told British GQ in a recent interview.

“I think if they’re key to the story then they’re worthwhile. Listen, no one likes doing them, they’re the most awkward possible part of our job. But sometimes you have to get on with it.”

Meanwhile, Nolan also defended the sex scenes in the film and explained in an interview why they are ‘essential’ to the movie.

Nolan had never included a sex scene in any of his films before Oppenheimer. “”When you look at Oppenheimer’s life and you look at his story, that aspect of his life, the aspect of his sexuality, his way with women, the charm that he exuded, it’s an essential part of his story,” he told Insider.

“It felt very important to understand their relationship and to really see inside it and understand what made it tick without being coy or allusive about it – but to try to be intimate, to try and be in there with him and fully understand the relationship that was so important to him.”

Cillian Murphy plays the titular J. Robert Oppenheimer in the movie.

Universal Pictures

Oppenheimer has received widespread acclaim from critics, audiences and Nolan’s peers. Paul Schrader, who is best known for writing the screenplay to a little known film called Taxi Driver, took to his personal Facebook to spread the utmost praise for the three-hour-long flick.

“OPPENHEIMER. The best, most important film of this century. If you see one film in cinemas this year it should be Oppenheimer. I’m not a Nolan groupie but this one blows the doors off the hinges,” wrote Schrader while sharing a picture of him and Nolan.

It doesn’t get much better than that!
